Employers who hire long-term unemployed or underemployed workers living in the six-county Sacramento region can receive up to $4,000 from a Sacramento Employment & Training Agency grant administered by the North State Building Industry Foundation. The National Emergency Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor is the ultimate source of this funding.
Although the foundation is associated with the North State Building Industry Association, employers do not have to be in the home building industry to benefit from the Hiring Assistance Program. Most businesses located in the region can participate.
The hires can be untrained, highly skilled, or anywhere in between. They must be hired as permanent, full-time employees. Full time means 32 hours per week or more. They may not be seasonal or temporary employees.
The current round of funding runs through June 30th of this year. According to the foundation, there was still some grant money in the current round as of the middle of March. Moreover, a new round of funding is anticipated to begin on July 1st.
Employees who live in the following counties are eligible: El Dorado, Placer, Yolo, Sacramento, Yuba and Sutter.
The foundation says that the process is simple, with minimal paperwork.
