RCC Statement on Eviction of Gay Couple from Roseville Galleria

In response to the incident in which a gay couple allegedly was asked to leave the Roseville Galleria for kissing and holding hands, the Sacramento Rainbow Chamber of Commerce released the following statement from President Darrick Lawson:

“The rules governing the behavior of visitors to the Roseville Galleria should be equally applied to all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The buying power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community nationwide is estimated at $790 billion, and many LGBT people are patrons of Roseville Galleria and other Sacramento region businesses. The Sacramento Rainbow Chamber of Commerce is committed to helping create a diverse and inclusive business community and to promoting the economic prosperity of our region. The recent incident and the corporate and community response to it indicate there is still more work to be done. It is our hope that Westfield will act to clarify its policies governing guest behavior and work positively with our community to ensure fair treatment for all.”
